Every parents worst nightmare came true for mother of two Annabel Wadsworth when her baby son started foaming at the mouth as he choked on a blueberry in the middle of a supermarket. But disaster was averted when a heroic Co op manager stepped in to save the little boys life by pulling the blueberry from his throat. It was a dramatic unofficial first day of work for Emma Day, 3. She then gave her son a blueberry to nibble on, something he has eaten a million times before. Annabel, a digital and leadership talent partner at Shop Direct, described the terrifying moment her son started to choke on the fruit. Emma, who said it felt as if the incident lasted for hours, told FEMAIL Im a trained first aider and just went into survival mode. I grabbed and him and put him over my knee and started striking him sharply in between the shoulder blades to try and dislodge whatever the foreign object was. It wouldnt shift he was starting to go blue and was foaming at the mouth, it was utterly terrifying. I knew I had to act fast. Annabel said she had never been so happy to see a piece of fruit. In the panic, Annabel didnt take down Emmas details, so took to Facebook to describe how a perfect stranger had saved her sons life. She called for Co op to give Emma an award for employee of the year, decade, or sod it, the century. She not only saved Jesses life, but she also looked after Lyla and me afterwards, sitting on the floor hugging and crying with me.
